Register a Template to a Task

You can apply a template to specific devices though a task. You must create a task that includes the template, and then specifies one or more target devices and a schedule of when to run the task. The procedure to create a task is the same for all [Configuration Templates].

To create a configuration task, follow the steps below.

  1. Go to [Configuration][Configuration Tasks].

  2. Click [Add].

  3. On the [General] tab, enter the name and description.

The security group items are displayed when the group restriction function is enabled in the security settings, and you can restrict the device group to be specified for the template target. For the security group context, refer to Configure Group Restrictions.

  1. Select [Check] or [Apply] as the method for executing the template.

The following are the list of method you can choose.

    • Check: The configuration in the template is compared with that of the target device, and the result is recorded in a log. No change is made to the target device.
    • Apply: The configuration in the template is applied to the target device.
    • Reboot: Restarts the target devices. No configuration template is needed to run this task.
    • Energy Saver Mode: Enables the Energy Saver mode of the target device. No configuration template is needed to run this task.
    • Reinitialize SLNX Embedded: Reinitialize the SLNX embedded installed on the target devices. No configuration template is needed to run this task.
    • Remote Erase All Memory: This option is available only if you are logged into SLNX with Customer Engineer privileges. This option will erase main information and may erase network information on the target device(s) when the task is run.

When a Customer Engineer selects the Remote Erase All Memory option, the Schedule and Retry options are disabled. Schedule is not available due to the importance of this operation and Retry is not available to avoid the possibility of a failed communication process preventing clearance of the settings.

  1. Click (Select Target Template) on the [Template] tab.

Click the template button on the toolbar to display the dialog box for selecting the template to be included in the task.

Use the arrow right button to move the template to be used from the [Template] list to the [Target Template] list

Specify [Force Reboot after Template Execution] or [Switch into Energy Saver Mode after Execute Template] as necessary.

    • When [Force Reboot after Template Execution] is specified, the device reboots after template execution regardless of the execution result.
    • When [Switch into Energy Saver Mode after Execute Template] is specified, the device switches to energy saver mode after template execution.

The [Template] tab is not displayed when [Energy Saver Mode], [Cancel Energy Saver Mode], or [Reboot] is selected in [Type] on the [General] tab.

  2. Select the template to be registered to the task in the [Target Template] list and click [OK].

Select the [Switch into Energy Saver Mode after Execute Template] or [Force Reboot after Template Execution] check box as necessary. For example, you can use [Force Reboot after Template Execution] to check the device configuration and reboot the devices periodically.

  1. On the [Target Devices/Groups] tab, specify the devices or groups that are the target of the task.

    1. Click (Add group) or (Add Devices).
    2. Add the target devices or groups to the [Target Device] or [Target Groups] list, and then click [OK].
  1. On the [Schedule] tab, configure the date, time, and interval to perform the task.

    Item Name

    Description

    Disable Schedule

When checked, this task will not run as per the set schedule. Use this feature to temporarily disable the task, or use the (Delete) button to remove the task.

    Once Only

Executed only once at the specified date/time. The task will run when you click the (Run) button.

    Interval

The task begins at the specified date/time, and it is repeatedly executed at a specified interval. Specify the interval from 1 minute to 7 days. Specify whether the interval measurement starts at the start or end of the previous job.

    Daily

The task begins on the specified date, and it is executed daily at the specified time.

    Weekly

Network search begins at the specified date/time, and it is executed weekly on the specified day of the week. You can specify more than one day of the week.

    Monthly

Network search begins at the specified date/time, and it is executed weekly on the specified day of the week. You can specify more than one day of the week.

    Advanced Settings

Select this check box to set a time period for preventing task execution.

  1. On the [Notification] tab, specify whether or not to receive a notification when a task is completed.

    Item Name

    Description

    Enable Task Completion Notification

Specify whether to send a notification e-mail when the task is completed.

    Input Email Address Manually

Enter the e-mail address of the destination manually.

    • Email address: Enter the e-mail address of the destination.

    • [Language]: Select the language to use in the notification e-mail.

    Select Destination

Select a destination from the destinations registered in [System] → [Notification] → [Destination].

  2. Set the following on the [Retry] Tab.

    Item Name

    Description

    Enable Retry Task

Specify whether to retry a task when it fails. When enabled, specify the retry times, interval, and timeout setting.

When you enable this option, the [Delete stuck jobs if final retry fails] checkbox appears below the Retry and Interval Fields.

    Retry times

Specify the number of retries from 1 to 10 times. The default is 3 times.

    Interval

Specify the retry interval from 0 to 60 minutes. The base point of the interval is the end time of the template. The default is 10 minutes.

Delete stuck jobs if final retry fail

This checkbox appears only when "Enable Retry Task's is selected.

Enable this checkbox, and then confirm that you want to delete stuck print jobs without notifying the user. You must click Yes to proceed.

When the task is run, and the task fails during the final retry attempt, this setting will allow SLNX to attempt to delete all stuck copy and print jobs on the target device(s). Other pending jobs will not be deleted from the device – only the current, stuck jobs will be removed from the device.

If any jobs are removed due to this setting, you can view the results in the System Log. The Description field in the log will indicate "A Copy [or Print] job was deleted from a device during the execution of [x] task", and will indicate the device name and address.

This option is supported only by DS managed devices. It is not supported by DM Agent managed devices.

    Timeout

Specify the timeout setting for retry task.

    • [Enable Timeout]: Specify whether to abort retry when the timeout period elapses.

    • [Timeout]: Specify the timeout period for aborting a retry task from 1 to 120 minutes.

      The default is 60 minutes.

  3. If you set the Type to Remote Erase All Memory in step 4 above, choose the following on the Remote Erase All Memory tab:

    Item Name

    Description

    HDD Erase Method

Choose the erasing method supported by the target device(s). Options are NSA, DoD, Random Numbers, BSI/VSITR, Secure Erase or Format.

If the target device does not support the method selected, the process is skipped.

HDD Erase Repeat Times This option is only available if you selected Random Numbers as the Erase Method. Specify the number of times for deletion. The default value is 3.
  4. Click [Save] when the settings are complete.

  5. Click [Run] to execute the task immediately.

If you selected Remote Erase All Memory as the Task Type, you will see a confirmation message asking you to confirm if you want to run the task. The task attempts to erase main device information first. If successful, the task will proceed to erase network information. After network data is erased, the devices may no longer communicate with SLNX. The erase operation can be verified in the Task Log.

  • To display the list of registered tasks, select [System] → [Scheduled Tasks] in the navigation tree.

  • Execute a configuration task at times other than business hours whenever possible.

  • If 213 and 214 errors occur in the task log after executing a configuration task, reboot the corresponding device immediately.
